It's that time of year when bustier dress alterations are a-go-go in our studio. See the elegant gowns we've been working on so far.
Spring Summer Fashion Trend: Bustier Dress Alterations
Strapless garments are an elegant way to keep cool come spring and bustier dresses are the ideal way to avoid wardrobe malfunctions. Whilst, the wedding season is in full swing we've been hard at work on bustier dress alterations.
Here are some of the bustier dresses we've been working on for SS15.
Roland Mouret Dress
This green pleated Roland Mouret dress came into our studio to have the bustier taken in. As you can see we have our pins and matching thread at the ready.
Oscar de la Renta Dress
We've been extending the lining on this gold Oscar de la Renta dress to make it full-length. It's now ready to sparkle at any summer soiree.
Alexander McQueen Dress
Full-length evening dresses are a classic spring summer fashion trend that we see year in and year out. A particular favourite at London Fitting Rooms is the famous Alexander McQueen waterfall dress.
This 100% silk dress has had the hem shortened before our workroom manager, Susanne, did a a quality check on the bustier corset. Plus, she's really rocking that hair bow.
Alexander McQueen Wedding Dress
This year saw us completing bridal alterations on an Alexander McQueen waterfall dress. This involved adding draped straps to the bustier.
You can see the interior structure of an inserted corset with bonings, nude mesh and padded bra. The bride also wanted a little extra support so we draped the straps with toiling fabrics called calico. Et voila!
Alexander McQueen Dresses
These Alexander McQueen gowns really are a London Fitting Rooms favourite as they featured in our new short film (below). They were originally created as evening dresses but have been adapted for our purposes.
Our short film shows how a professional nip and tuck can allow greater comfort, more flexibility and movement. To allow for the gymnastic skills of our artists we created very high slits in the lining in both the sides.
Fortunately, the top chiffon layer comes in generous amounts yet the lining is a thicker silk. This was originally made narrower to maintain the lightness of the dress.
The slits remained covered and the bustier of these McQueen dresses totally behaved itself thanks to our tailoring work. The shorter mesh corsets have great support without strain and are comfortable. Which we’re sure every woman can appreciate.
Watch these bustier dresses in action in our short film.
