Roland Mouret Galaxy Dress Alterations

A century ago the best way to get garments that fit your taste and shape was with bespoke clothing. Now, it's all about innovative fashion designers.

In our latest series we're celebrating the garments that are modern classics and go against the fast fashion trend. The Roland Mouret galaxy dress is one such item.

This year sees its ten year anniversary for the SS16 fashion season. Here's why the galaxy dress has been seen in our studio time and time again.

The Roland Mouret galaxy dress was first shown in 2006 and is a rare red carpet favourite. This is especially surprising as it's a major faux pas to wear the same outfit as someone else.

Fortunately, when it comes to galaxy dresses no one seems to care and it has become an iconic item of clothing. It has now been in the fashion consciousness for a decade.

Its shape is figure flattering, the neckline shows just the right amount of décolletage and the sleeves showcase the arms beautifully. It takes the cinched-in waist and modest hemline of the past and modernises it. It's no wonder that the Roland Mouret galaxy dress has become synonymous with sensuality.

Roland mouret said, “I remember the first time I did the Galaxy, which was everything based on the masculine instinct I could have, and analysing the female form.”

He added, “The bra was the first thing. I felt like I was a straight guy looking at it, thinking, is it sexy enough?” according to The Independent.

The new Roland Mouret capsule collection named 'Galaxy Ten' sees new variations on this piece. It was first showcased during the Paris Fashion Week SS16 and is now available in stores.

We can't wait to work with the new line of galaxy jumpsuits and two-pieces in our studio. Get an insight in to fashion designer, Roland Mouret and his draping technique.
