What Length Should Elegant Long Evening Dresses Be?

We take a look at the dos and don'ts of elegant long evening dresses from this season's red carpet looks. Apparently, the perfect floor length is hard to come by.

What Length Should Elegant Long Evening Dresses Be?

Looking like you’re going to trip on your dress at a friend’s wedding is never a good look. Unless by some coincidence you land in the lap of Prince Charming.

Therefore, we might even argue that wearing it too short is worse. What we are after is the perfect floor length and let’s be honest, we’re not the only ones.

The perfect floor length for long evening dresses gives a clearing for the rest of the dress.

Without noticing, attention can be caught by something that isn’t quite right. It distracts from the rest of the dress and the woman in it.

The right length gives a sense of ease for the wearer and the viewer. It lets you wear the dress instead of the dress wearing you.

When you can forget about the dress, you can enjoy the dress. You can feel great and concentrate on the party. This is the clue that you have achieved the perfect fit.

To make sure you do, you need to know which shoes you are going to wear on the day and bring them with you for your fitting.

As you can see with actress, Andrea Riseborough (above, left), her dress skims the floor without laying upon it. Meanwhile, Emma Stone (above, center) has opted to show off the shoes which can distract the eye and play with proportions.

On the other hand, Emilia Fox (above, right) is wearing a fantastic long evening dress but there’s just a bit too much of it. Again, Andrea Riseborough (above, left) is the goldilocks of evening gowns and got it just right. Spot on, amazing and easy.
